Through gentle movements, Somatics teaches us how to move freely without pain. Somatics enhances awareness of the brain-to-muscle connection in our body and shows us how to let go of stress.

After holding several senior positions in elected public office, I devoted my time to equestrian pursuits. Following a serious accident with my horse, I found my way to Somatics.  

 

Somatics targets the source of chronic muscular pain which is the brain, or more specifically, the sensory motor nervous system. Sensory Motor Amnesia develops when accidents, injuries, surgeries or any ongoing stress causes us to tighten our muscles. If that response becomes habitual, the nervous system begins to think these contractions are normal. Because the brain controls the muscles, the brain has to be involved in teaching muscles to release their tension and remembering how to move freely again.

  • learning gentle movements that can be practised at home to regain control of muscles affected by Sensory Motor Amnesia,
